Η Κωνσταντίνα (Ντίνα) Σορόκου έφυγε από τη ζωή την Τετάρτη 15 Μαρτίου 2023 στα 96 της χρόνια. Γεννημένη στο Κροκύλειο της Ελλάδας στις 3 Απριλίου του 1926, μετανάστευσε στο Μπράντφορντ του Οντάριο του Καναδά στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1950, φτάνοντας με πλοίο στο λιμάνι του Χάλιφαξ του Καναδά. Γνώρισε τον άντρα της (Δημήτριο) σε έναν ελληνικό χορό σε μια γειτονική πόλη και ερωτεύτηκαν και παντρεύτηκαν. Δούλευε κάθε μέρα στον χώρο του εστιατορίου και το βράδυ ήταν νοικοκυρά και μητέρα. Δεν φοβήθηκε ποτέ την πολύωρη και σκληρή δουλειά. Ήταν τυπική Ελληνίδα μαμά, μία εξαιρετική μαγείρισσα που μπορούσε να ετοιμάσει ένα γεύμα σε λίγο ή καθόλου χρόνο, ακόμα κι αν κανείς δεν πεινούσε. Το 1973, μετακόμισε με την οικογένειά της στο Newport News της Βιρτζίνια για μια νέα αρχή και ένα νέο ξεκίνημα σε μια άλλη χώρα. Το 1977, αυτή και ο σύζυγός της έγιναν ιδιοκτήτες του εστιατορίου Oasis στο Hampton και εργάστηκαν εκεί μέχρι που συνταξιοδοτήθηκε τη δεκαετία του 1980. Λάτρευε και συχνά φρόντιζε τα μωρά εγγόνια της (Τζέιμς, Άναμπελ και Ζωή). Αυτά ήταν ο κόσμος της. Η Ντίνα δεν γνώρισε ποτέ έναν ξένο και πάντα άνοιγε την καρδιά, το σπίτι και την κουζίνα της σε όλους. Στο θάνατο είχε προηγηθεί ο σύζυγός της Δημήτριος Σορόκος, οι γονείς της Νικόλαος και Ασήμω Ποδιώτη και τα αδέρφια της Ιωάννης Ποδιώτης, Βιολέττα Παγώνη και Ισμήνη Κοβαίου. Ήταν η αγαπημένη μητέρα του Peter Sorokos και του Nick Sorokos (Caroline), των εγγονιών James (Alexandra) Sorokos, Zoe Sorokos και Annabelle Sorokos, μελλοντικών δισέγγονων (Emmett James και Carter James), πολλών ανηψιών και μιας ευρύτερης οικογένειας.

Constantina (Dina) Sorokos passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2023 in her 96th year. Born in Krokelion, Greece in 1926 she emigrated to Brantford, Ontario Canada in the early 1950’s arriving by ship at the port of Halifax, Canada. She met her husband (Demetrios) at a Greek dance in a neighboring city and they fell in love and got married. Always in the restaurant business, she worked during the day and was a housewife and mother at night. She was a tough lady, never afraid of the long hours or hard work. A typical Greek mom, she was an excellent cook and could whip up a meal in little or no time even if no-one was hungry. In 1973, she moved with her family to Newport News, Virginia for a new beginning and a fresh start in another country. In 1977, she and her husband became owners of the Oasis Restaurant in Hampton and worked there until she retired in the 1980’s. She loved and often babysat her grandchildren (James, Annabelle and Zoe). Her grandchildren were her world. Dina never knew a stranger and always opened her heart, home and kitchen to everyone. She was proceeded in death by her husband Demetrios Sorokos, parents Nicholas and Asimo Podiotis and also her siblings John Podiotis, Violetta Pagonis and Ismini Coveos. She is survived by, and is the beloved mother of Peter Sorokos and Nick Sorokos (Caroline), grandchildren James (Alexandra) Sorokos, Zoe Sorokos, and Annabelle Sorokos, future great- grandchildren (Emmett James and Carter James) and beloved by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be on Tuesday March 21st between 5pm – 7pm with the Trisagion being chanted at 6pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Riverside Chapel on 7415 River Rd. in Newport News. Funeral service will be at 11:30am Wednesday March 22nd at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will be at the Peninsula Memorial Park followed by a Luncheon for family and friends at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
